99% of People Get This Wrong: How Many Holes Does This Shirt Really Have?

At first glance, the answer seems obvious.

You look at the shirt and start counting the visible holes.

But this puzzle is designed to make you think twice.

The real question isn’t simply “How many holes can you see?”

It’s:

“How many openings does the shirt actually have?”

Most people immediately count the neck opening, the two arm openings, and the opening at the bottom.

That gives you four.

But then you have to look closer.

If the shirt has holes punched through the front and back, those openings go through both layers of fabric. Each opening therefore creates an opening on the front and another on the back.

That changes the calculation.

And there’s another detail that makes this puzzle even trickier.

Do you count the normal openings of the shirt?

Some people do.

Others count only the obvious tears or holes in the fabric.

So the answer depends on exactly what the picture is showing and what you mean by a “hole.”
