I Slept at My Friend’s Old Apartment for a Couple of Days—Then I Noticed These Weird Bumps

I thought staying at my friend’s old apartment for a couple of days would be completely uneventful.

The place was empty, a little dusty, and clearly hadn’t been lived in for a while. But it was quiet, and I only needed somewhere to sleep while I was in town.

The first night went by without anything unusual.

The second morning, however, I noticed something strange.

There were small bumps appearing in several places around the apartment.

At first, I assumed they were just imperfections in the old walls.

But the more I looked, the stranger they seemed.

The bumps were small and oddly shaped.

I touched one of them lightly and immediately regretted it.

It felt different from ordinary paint or plaster.

Then I Started Looking Around

Once I noticed the bumps, I began paying attention to the rest of the apartment.

There were faint discolorations near one wall.

A couple of areas looked slightly damp.

The room also had a strange musty smell that I hadn’t noticed when I first arrived.

That combination made me uncomfortable.

Old apartments can develop problems that aren’t immediately visible, particularly if they’ve been vacant for a long time.

Moisture behind walls can lead to mold growth, while insects can sometimes leave signs in cracks, wood, and other hidden spaces.

The Creepiest Part

What bothered me most wasn’t the appearance of the bumps.

It was the fact that I couldn’t figure out what had caused them.

I kept looking at them, trying to convince myself that they were harmless.

But every time I walked past that wall, I noticed something new.

The apartment suddenly didn’t feel quite as empty as it had the night before.

I eventually decided not to disturb anything further.

Instead, I took photographs and contacted my friend to ask whether they’d ever noticed the bumps before.

Their answer made me even more curious.

They said they had never seen anything like it.

What Could They Be?

Without seeing the bumps clearly, there’s no way to identify them with certainty.

They could be something completely harmless, such as damaged plaster, old adhesive, moisture-related deterioration, or paint bubbling.

They could also potentially be related to insects or other pests.

A Small Discovery That Changed the Whole Atmosphere

I eventually left the apartment without getting a definite answer.

Maybe the bumps were nothing unusual.

Maybe they were the result of years of moisture and neglect.

Or perhaps there was a much simpler explanation hiding in the walls.

Either way, the experience taught me something:

Once you notice one strange thing in an old building, you start noticing everything.

And after spending two nights there, I definitely wasn’t as comfortable sleeping in that apartment as I had been when I first arrived.
